Samantha Gaudet is an artist based in Edmonton but was born in a rural Alberta town called Bruderheim. Her work has everything to do with memories, experiences and the hardships we store in them. Sentimentality and nostalgia make materials important. They carry us inside them. They represent us and what we have been thrown into. Samantha’s work revolves around themes of nostalgia and the ephemeral nature of memory. Through found objects, readymades and materiality she aims to create pieces that connect to a viewer’s past. Samantha likes to break conventions in painting and subvert expectations of how objects can be used in art.
