Karys Hallett is an interdisciplinary queer artist based in Treaty 6 territory (Edmonton, Alberta). She is currently attending the University of Alberta for her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art & Design. Her studio practice includes drawing, painting, printmaking, and installation, with a strong focus on lithographic techniques. Her practice draws on lived experiences, contemporary politics, and queer history to address abstract ideas of grief, community, trauma, joy, and love through the use of queer floriography, recurring animal characters, everyday objects, and imagined environments. Her work also simultaneously tackles the somber realities of living as a queer person in an increasingly hostile and vocally anti-queer world in ways that are relatable and can bridge deep divides between those within and outside the queer community.
