Natesa Medlicott-Kappo (she/her) is an emerging Nehiyaw artist and Indigenous rights activist from Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation in Treaty 8 Territory Alberta. Natesa incorporates the traditional Nehiyaw art practices with film, textile, and mixed media work. She has a diploma in Visual Art and Design from Northwestern Polytechnic and is completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Natesa focuses on Indigenous arts, painting, textiles, and installation. Natesa has had group shows in various Alberta galleries and her work is owned by Northwestern Polytechnic and Grande Prairie Friendship Centre. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including being shortlisted for the Ohpinimake award, and receiving a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Natesa is currently working on a public monument that will honour the traditional caretakers of Treaty 8’s Peace Region and will be located in Grande Prairie.
