Juno Dorey

Juno Dorey (they/she; b. 2001) is an interdisciplinary artist, guided by their familial connections and personal interests in community activities as they relate to land. Currently practicing on Treaty 6 Lands in Edmonton, AB, their practice includes drawing, painting and different printmaking disciplines. Informed by their experience as a gardener, their work draws from forms present in urban green spaces and observations of the relationships between light, colour and botanicals.

The ways in which local communities function are in direct conversation with individual’s views on land stewardship. This current body of work pulls major influence from the artist’s Mother, as a life-long model for the philosophy of ‘care’, most often in relation to gardens and the significance of tending to your community. While ‘care’ is an innate ability, it also requires a degree of effort and active participation; this counts on communal, generational and individual levels.

I care – do you?
